Veterinary acupuncture has been practiced in china for at least two thousand years. Its use as an adjunct to Western medicine is relatively new, but a growing number of veterinarians are finding it helpful in situations where anti-inflammatory medications either don’t work or cause unpleasant side effects. It’s also used frequently in cases where surgery is not an option.

Though it’s often considered the treatment of last resort, veterinarians may choose acupuncture first. It’s been found to produce particularly favorable results in dogs with respiratory conditions, skin disorders, and arthritis. If your pet has any of these chronic conditions, ask your veterinarian if acupuncture may be helpful.
