Whether your cat lives inside or out, it’s a good idea to give her some form of ID. After all, even couch potato kitties may decide to sneak out a cracked door.
Ideally, your cat should have a microchip painlessly inserted under her skin so that no matter what, your contact information stays with her. It can be a life-saver if your cat gets lost without her collar. A veterinarian can simply read the microchip with a scanner and call you to bring your errant kitty home.
Your cat should also have a collar and ID tag so that she can be identified by sight. Choose a flexible, break-away collar so that your cat can’t accidentally hurt herself. And check it often to make sure it fits – you should be able to slide two fingers inside.
