Your new kitten’s first visit to the veterinarian should be just before or just after you bring her home. The doctor will examine kitty’s eyes, ears, teeth, and skin. She’ll weigh her, take her temperature, listen to her heart and lungs, feel her internal organs, and test her muscles and joints. You should bring a stool sample to check for worms, but some doctors will give kitty a dewormer medicine in any case.
Kitty will have blood tests for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus. If she’s at least eight weeks old, she’ll get an all-in-one vaccine for several cat diseases. The veterinarian will tell you when kitty should come back for her rabies vaccine, booster shots, and maybe a vaccine for feline leukemia if she’ll be outdoors.
